Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Welcomes New Members


St. Petersburg, FL – The ladies of the Zeta Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated are pleased to announce the newest members of their organization. The 2016 members are: Veronica Burge, Brianna Forde, Terrolyn Huckaby, Angela Johnson, Tameko Lovett, Rene Robinson-Flowers, Angela Rouson, Erin Savage, Nikita Shivers, Arilee Still, and Rita Wesley.

The group’s membership activities culminated with an invitation only luncheon on Sunday, October 2 at the University of South Florida -St. Petersburg Student Center.

South Atlantic Region Cluster II Coordinator, Donna Douglas was the guest speaker and Chapter President, Cassandra B. Williams officially welcomed the new members with reaffirmation of the sorority's purpose of Service to All Mankind.

Before being formally introduced to the community by Membership Chairman Joi B. Davies and Co-Chairman Loretta Gilstrap, new members gave presentations of gratitude to the chapter.


To underscore Alpha Kappa Alpha's commitment to the community, the initiates participated in a Sisters United 4 Literacy community service project on Saturday, October 1st at the St. Petersburg Campus of Pinellas Technical College in St. Petersburg. The project aimed to promote literacy through an interactive read aloud for children. The service activity targeted Educational Enrichment, Family Strengthening, and Environmental Ownership targets aligned to the sorority’s national program theme of Launching New Dimensions of Service.


During the event, participants enjoyed a delicious lunch and received an eco-friendly tote bag to carry their new books. Parents were also given information to assist with reading to their children. Following the event, a donation of books was presented to R’Club Child Care, Inc., Pinellas County Schools, and the Lew Williams Center for Early Learning in honor of Pinellas County School Board Member, Lew Williams.
