Essence of Ebony Pearls 2009

As a part of their pageantry activities, the young ladies attended Etiquette; Health and Wellness; Personal Development & Safety; Poise, Hair and Skin Care workshops; as well as participated in cultural activities and community service projects. The Essence of Ebony Pearls Debutante Scholarship Cotillion’s Diamonds & Pearls Tea was the commencement affair concluding the pre-pageantry activities before presentation.
Hosted by Erica Riggins, Bay News 9 Anchor, and Marlo Smith, HSN Host, over a thousand family and guests shared this special moment with presenters demonstrating social poise and grace. Four of the thirty-four debutantes received scholarships based on funds raised vying for the honor of Miss Debutante, First, Second and Third Attendants. The honorees are Miss Chantea Kirnes, Miss Debutante 2009; Miss Brittany Booze, First Attendant; Miss. Myia Mills, Third Attendant and Miss Briana McDonald, Third Attendant. Miss. Magan Morin & Miss. Nia Berthelot were award the title of Miss Congeniality, Miss. Cabrea Hayes received the Spirit Award and Miss. Christ Keys earned Miss. Community Service. The Zeta Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has assisted Cotillion participants with several thousand dollars in scholarships to a college or university of their choice as a result of our Biennial Debutante Cotillion.

The ladies of Zeta Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sponsored Harlem Nights at the St. Petersburg Hilton on Friday, June 11th 2010. It was an elegant evening to remember. The event featured a night of dancing, entertainment, gaming, dinner and also a silent auction in which the guest were able to bid on wonderful gift baskets and other items such as vacation |
| packages, dinner certificates and an autographed memorabilia by Marreese Speights from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Ebony Fashion Fair also donated two outfits that were also included in the silent auction. The winners were announced at the end of the night. Guest dressed in Harlem Night attire. The event was well attended and everyone had a great time. The proceeds from the event benefit the Youth Development Foundation of Pinellas County. The Youth Development Foundation is a non-profit organization established by the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc to provide mentoring and funding opportunities that enhances the quality of life for targeted youth in Pinellas County. Proceeds from the event also are donated to other local charities in the community. |
