Essence of Ebony Pearls 2011

On March 19, 2011 the Youth Development Foundation of Pinellas County, Inc. presented 24 high school junior and senior girls at the 6th Biennial Essence of Ebony Pearls Debutante Scholarship Cotillion at the St. Petersburg Coliseum, downtown St. Petersburg. After months of preparation through workshops and personal development activities, the beautiful young ladies were recognized for their academic achievement, church/community/civic involvement and positive role within the community before an audience of over 800 family members and invited guests. The purpose of this affair is

to highlight achievements, social grace and scholarship needs of young African American women in the Tampa Bay area. Monthly workshops focused on development and personal growth was held prior to the Cotillion from November through March. Over $13,500 was presented in scholarships. Read Tampabay.com article here.

The ladies of Zeta Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sponsored Harlem Nights at the St. Petersburg Hilton on Friday, June 11th 2010. It was an elegant evening to remember. The event featured a night of dancing, entertainment, gaming, dinner and also a silent auction in which the guest were able to bid on wonderful gift baskets and other items such as vacation
packages, dinner certificates and an autographed memorabilia by Marreese Speights from the Philadelphia 76ers. Ebony Fashion Fair also donated two outfits that were also included in the silent auction. The winners were announced at the end of the night. Guest dressed in Harlem Night attire. The event was well attended and everyone had a great time.

The proceeds from the event benefit the Youth Development Foundation of Pinellas County. The Youth Development Foundation is a non-profit organization established by the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc to provide mentoring and funding opportunities that enhances the quality of life for targeted youth in Pinellas County. Proceeds from the event also are donated to other local charities in the community.
